VELMA PHILLIPS

STONEWALL — Graveside services for Velma Strader Phillips, 101, Stonewall, are 2 p.m. Saturday at East Hill Cemetery near Roff. Carl Hayes will officiate.

Mrs. Phillips died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at a Stonewall nursing home. She was born Feb. 14, 1908, at Holdenville, to Charlie Wayne and Mabel Condren Strader.

She and her family moved to this area in 1914 from Holdenville. She attended Lawrence grade school and graduated from Ada High School.

She married Burl T. Phillips on May 8, 1930, at Sulphur. He died June 20, 1987, at Ada.

Mrs. Phillips was a retail clerk at Dillon’s Department Store and previously, she and her husband owned and operated a grocery store and auto repair shop. She was affiliated with the Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of Rebekah Lodge, an auxiliary of Odd Fellows.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Phillips Tinsley and husband Robert W. Tinsley, Boles, Ark.; three grandsons, Dibrell Phillips II, Crowley, Texas, Robert W. Tinsley II, Clearwater, Fla., and Bruce T. Tinsley, Boles, Ark.; two granddaughters, Sheryl Edwards, Ada, and Dana Phillips, Dallas, Texas; six great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie W. and Mabel Condren Strader, her husband, a son, Dibrell Lee Phillips, brothers, Virgil Strader and twin brothers at childbirth, sisters, OraLee Strader (age 3), Edrie Strader Anthony, and Audra Strader Smith, and a great-granddaughter, Shelby Tinsley (age 5 months).

The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, Oklahoma and Arkansas Chapter, Inc., 6465 South Yale Ave., Ste. 312, Tulsa, OK 74136-7804.

MENNIE AKERS

PAULS VALLEY — Services for Mennie Lorene Akers, 82, Pauls Valley, formerly of Ada are 10 a.m. Saturday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, her son, Don Akers will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Akers died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at a Pauls Valley nursing home. She was born Dec. 20, 1926, at Fillmore to Virgil and Annie Buckaloo Cogburn.

She attended Fillmore area schools.

She married Alvin Bert Akers on Sept. 15, 1954. He died Jan. 26, 2000.

Mr. and Mrs. Akers moved to Ada in 1968 from Lancaster, Texas. Mrs. Akers was a homemaker and she and her husband started several mission churches of the Apostolic Faith in Oklahoma and Texas.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Akers, Ada, Thomas Akers and wife Linda, Seminole, and Don Akers and wife Roberta, Pauls Valley; four sisters, Patsy Yandell, Ennis, Texas, Betty Carnley, Diboll, Texas, Judy Brister and husband Leroy, Durant, and Maudine Richie and husband Sam, Madill; one brother, Bobby Cogburn and wife Joy, Durant; a brother-in-law, Arthur Yandell; sister-in-law, Diane Cogburn; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one granddaughter, a brother, and five sisters.

Bearers will be Caleb Akers, Luke Akers, Benjamin Akers, Joseph Akers, Anthony Mann and Brad Townsend. Honorary bearers will be Steve Waters, Troy Fullerton, James Pentecost and Jonathan Akers.

MOZELL BURRIS

EDMOND — Graveside services for Nearther Mozella Burris, 72, Edmond, are 1 p.m. Saturday at Boiling Springs Cemetery, near Lula. The Rev. Jeff Frazier will officiate.

Ms. Burris died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at her home. She was born Dec. 23, 1936, at Tupelo to Mose B. and Willie D. Stick Burris.

She attended Tupelo schools and graduated from Tupelo High School.

Ms. Burris lived in the Oklahoma City – Edmond area for 56 years. She was a member of the Boiling Springs United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Ronnie Burris and wife Lynn, Lindale, Texas; a daughter, Kay Johnston, Wilburton; six grandchildren, Lamanda, Mose Bradley, Autumn, Brian, Kim and Camren; four great-grandchildren, Breeanna, Brookline, Tyler and Taylor; and brothers and sisters, Winnie Fox, Sebena Burris, Gabriel Burris, Lonie Burris, David Burris, Hoylt Burris, Neal Burris and Mary Cochrin.

LELAH FRAIR

KINGFISHER — A double memorial graveside service for Lelah "Phern" Morris Frair, 89, and her son , Victor Frair, 59, formerly of Konawa, are 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Hannah Cemetery near Dustin. Mrs. Frair died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009.
