ERNEST MATTHEWS

FRANCIS — Services for Ernest Wilbur “Ernie” Matthews, 81, Francis, are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Steve DeShazo will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Francis. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.

Mr. Matthews died Monday, April 13, 2009, at his home. He was born May 7, 1927, at Francis to Fred Lee and Mary Jane Henson Matthews.

He lived in the Francis area all his life and attended Francis school.

Mr. Matthews was a self-employed driller and pumper in the oilfield industry. He was a member of the Francis Baptist Church, American Legion, Post 72 in Ada, and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Jan. 15, 1946, until being honorably discharged as a private first class Feb. 13, 1947.

He married Margie Harris Feb. 14, 1948, at Francis.

Survivors include his wife, Margie June Matthews, of the home; one daughter, Sharon and husband Roger Jared, Bartlesville; one son, Gary Matthews and wife Sheila, Francis; grandchildren, Sheryl Goodson and husband Jack, Allen, Shannon Coman and husband Dave, Tulsa, Kanan Matthews and wife Tasha, Allen, and Matt Lewis, Bartlesville; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Hazel Phillips, Francis, Helen Canada, Ada, Leatha Linebarger, Francis, Eva Lois Picking, Salina, Kan., and Wanda Vitatoe, Sulphur Springs, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Raymond Matthews, Leonard Matthews, and Harold "Cotton" Matthews; and one sister, Dorothy Matthews.

Bearers will be his grandsons, Kanan Matthews and Matt Lewis; his grandsons-in-law, Dave Coman and Jack Goodson; and two nephews, Fred Martin and John Linebarger. Honorary bearers will be Ed Smith, Justin Smith, Roger Lancaster, Bill Kirkes, Jerry West, Richard Watson, Max Wainscott, and Charles West.

COALGATE — Services for Robin Phillips, 47, Coalgate, are 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel, Coalgate. She died April 8, 2009.

ADA — Services for Wilma Fern Elliott, 69, Ada, were 2 p.m. Monday at Crosspointe Church, the Rev. Shawn Wiebers officiated. Burial was at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mrs. Elliott died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at a local hospital. She was born Aug. 24, 1939, at Drumwright to Chester and Pauline Jones Williams.

She attended Bristow Elementary schools and graduated from Jenks High School in 1957.

She and her family moved to Ada in the early 1970s from Oklahoma City. Mrs. Elliott was a secretary for D.E. Electric and also Jerry’s Electric. She was a longtime member of Crosspointe Church.

She married Gerald Lee “Jerry” Elliott on July 5, 1959 at Jenks.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald L. “Jerry” Elliott, of the home; one son, Paul Elliott and wife Tami, Ada; one granddaughter, Kennedy Elliott; one grandson, Brock Elliott; and a sister, Linda Priest and husband Tom, Tulsa.

She was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Lee Elliott on Dec. 8, 1997.

Bearers were Monte Deatherage, Scotty Morrison, Brad Cantrell, Tim Mills, Bob Howser, and Ronnie Bates.

KONAWA – Services for Sammie Lee Dennie, 59, Konawa, are 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Konawa. She died Friday, April 10, 2009.
