LEE VIOLET

ADA — Services for Lee Violet, 96, Ada, are 2 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Toby Ross will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. Violet died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at a local nursing home. He was born Oct. 24, 1913, at Oklahoma City to John W. and Hazel Hornberger Violet.

He attended school at Ravia, Okla., and moved to this area from Johnston County.

He married Marian Dunlap. She died Dec. 31, 2006, in Ada.

Mr. Violet was a mechanic and co-owner of Violet and Gregg Garage and Violet’s Greenhouse, retiring in the mid-1980s. He was affiliated with the Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Janis Walker and husband Jerry, Ada, a son, Gary Violet, Miami, Fla.; one step-son, Frank Dunlap, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Cindy Current, Felecia Whitworth, Jared Dunlap and Carissa Dunlap; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Bearers will be Jerry Walker, Brian Current, Ruben Juarez, Barry Whitworth, Walker Whitworth and Ryan Williams. Honorary bearers will be Ronnie Hart, Jerry Elliott, Robert Scrutchins, John Wayne Hoggatt, Frank Dunlap and Gary Violet.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Compassion Outreach, 820 Stadium Drive, Ada, OK 74820.

STRATFORD — Graveside services for Jessie “Jake” Gray, 72, Stratford are 10 a.m. Thursday at McGee Cemetery in Stratford, the Rev. Earl Hood will officiate.

Mr. Gray died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at his home. He was born April 30, 1937, at Stratford to James B. and Myrtle Mae Mercer Gray.

Mr. Gray lived in this area all his life. He was a self-employed mechanic and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Phillips and husband Kim, Ada; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Bess Swallow, Stratford; three brothers, G.R. Gray, Stratford, Joe Gray, Stratford, and Gus Gray, Stratford; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Gray, Norman and Patsy Gray, Stratford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, J.B. Gray, Baxter Gray, George Gray and Rex Gray.

STONEWALL — Services for Betty Jo Pittman, 69, Stonewall, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Connerville Baptist Church, Phillip Barnes officiating. Burial follows at Pontotoc Cemetery.

Mrs. Pittman died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at an Ada hospital.
