Local Swimming Report

OKLAHOMA CITY — Eight members of Greater Ada Swim Club competed over the weekend at the Halloween Invitational Swim Meet hosted by Chesapeake Swim Club. The locals posted 42 personal best times and broke six team records during the two-and-a-half-day meet at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center.

A total of 426 swimmers from Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas participated. Placings were tabulated only for the younger swimmers.

Several of the performances by GASC qualified the swimmers for the 2010 Oklahoma Swimming Age Group Championships. So far this season the team has qualified six swimmers in 15 individual events for that state meet. Two other swimmers qualified during the summer but have since moved to California.

Upcoming meets are in Jenks, Oklahoma City, and Bartlesville, and the OSSAA swimming season kicks off this weekend with a season-opening invitational in Harrah.

MCALESTER — The Konawa Lady Tigers and the Savanna Lady Dawgs got to see each other, but not play one another, at the 2009 Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic over the Christmas break. But as the Class 2A playoff fate would have it, they got to meet Friday night in the area tournament title game for the right to play in this week’s Class 2A State Tournament. Fortunately, for the locals, they made it — but it was not easy.
