Valley View Regional Hospital’s Wound Healing Center was awarded the Center of Distinction Award on June 16.
According to Jim Henry, vice chairman of the Board of Diversified Clinical Services and company founder, the award was presented for the year 2009 in recognition of excellent healing outcomes, high patient satisfaction rates, and outstanding clinical performance.
Criteria for winning the award consisted of benchmarks against 310 other wound care centers located in 42 states and Puerto Rico with whom Diversified Clinical Services is involved.
Key indicators and Valley View Wound Healing Center’s ratings were as follows:
— Number of Days to Heal – Benchmark - 45 days, VVRH Wound Healing Center achieved in 35 days.
— Healing Percentage of Patients Seen - Benchmark 79.5 percent, VVRH Wound Healing Center was 87 percent in 2009 and currently at 89 percent.
— Outlier Percentage - (Number of patients who do not heal in the recommended time frame of 14 weeks or less) - Benchmark 35 percent, VVRH Wound Healing Center is 20 percent.
— Patient Satisfaction – Benchmark - 91.5 percent, VVRH Wound Healing Center 99 percent. Company officials say this is the highest patient satisfaction rate achieved by a center winning this award.
— The Wound Healing Center at Valley View Regional Hospital opened Dec. 15, 2005. Since then, over 1,500 patients have received care at the center. Greater than 12,000 patient visits and 7,000 hyperbaric treatments have been completed.
— The Wound Healing Center at Valley View Regional Hospital is led by Dr. Darius Noble, medical director, Cynthia Brents, program director, and Stephanie Mowdy, nurse manager and clinical coordinator.
The center is also staffed with specially trained registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and assistive personnel.
