Patrick Wyrick deploys; Ada gains new recruiter

HOLDENVILLE — Army Pfc. Patrick A. Wyrick is deploying overseas as a member of the 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade out of Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash., to serve in the U.S. Central Command’s area of responsibility in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The brigade members will partner with the Iraqi security forces as they take the lead in intelligence support for Iraq’s security operations. They are there to ensure the stability of the government in Iraq, especially during the upcoming elections. After the elections, the brigade will provide intelligence and security support as the U.S. forces withdraw from the Iraqi theater of operations..

Wyrick, a petroleum supply specialist, is normally assigned to the 602nd Forward Support Company, Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. He has served in the military for one year.

He is the son of Shirley M. McGirt, Wewoka; and brother of David A. Wyrick, Holdenville.

His wife, Skye, is the daughter of Don D. and Dina Dodd, Kingston.

The private is a 2008 graduate of Holdenville High School.



New Air Force recruiter in town

ADA — Ada has a new face in the community and he's ready to make an impact on the futures of young men and women around town. Staff Sgt. James Porter was recently assigned to the U.S. Air Force recruiting office at 1130 North Hills Center, next to Radio Shack and Cinema 6.

Porter is a recent graduate of the Air Froce Recruiting school in San Antonio, Texas, where he was trained in various areas of study, incuding hte Air Force job classification system, testing and enlistment processing procedures and public speaking.

Porter said he looks forward to making a positive impact on the communities in which he recruits. The Air Force has given me opportunities and experiences that I would never received anywhere else," he said. "I have received first class job training and skills while having the opportunity to travel the U.S., Europe, and Asia. The Air Force has really given me more than I could have ever imagined. It is my desire to show the young men and women of the community the many benefits that the Air Force has to offer and how the Air Force can help meet their needs."
