Separate wrecks kill five people
Kingston — Five Durant residents died in separate automobile wrecks in the last two days.
The first crash happened on Monday four miles west of Kingston at the intersection of U.S. 377 and State Highway 32 at 12:49 p.m., according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Josh O’Steen.
Erin E. Hudson, 31, Durant, was driving a 2003 Pontiac west on SH 32 when she failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled into the path of a semi driving south on U.S. 377.
The semi, driven by Julio Santamaria, 53, Houston, Texas, hit the car in the passenger side. The semi drove the car off the road and into a field.
Hudson and two passengers in her vehicle, Jason Eugene Madding, 33, Durant, and 2-year-old Paul Hudson, Durant, died at the scene from massive injuries.
Santamaria and a passenger in the semi, Nellie Santamaria, 54, Houston, refused treatment.
A second wreck involved one vehicle and happened on SH 70 about seven miles southeast of Durant Tuesday.
OHP Trooper David McCutcheon said Jackey J. Ross Jr., 50, Durant, was driving a 2005 Ford west on SH 70 when he left the roadway to the right, overcorrected and ran off the road to the left.
The vehicle’s passenger-side slammed into a tree pinning Ross and his passenger, Jackey J. Ross III, 25, Durant.
Both men died at the scene from massive injuries.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
