Election board accepting filings for area school boards

The Pontotoc County Election Board has permanently relocated to its new location at 131 W 13th St. which is across the street, south, of the Pontotoc County Courthouse.

Candidates for the Board of Education in 8 Pontotoc County School Districts will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2009.

Marilyn McDaniel, secretary of the Pontotoc County Election Board, said the filing period will end at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009.

Candidates for the Board of Education in the Pontotoc Technology Center also will file their Declarations during the same time period.

The Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the Annual School Election scheduled for Feb 9, 2010.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in this election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in an election on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.

Offices for which Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted at the County Election Board office include the following:



Ada SD I-19: Charles Mayhue,#5, Ward 5

Allen SD I-1: Frank Griffith, #5



Byng SD I-16: Jamie Perry #5, Ward 5



Latta SD I-24: Connie Smith, #5



Pickett Center C-20:Bobbie L. Nelson, #3

Pickett Center C-20: John Rhodes (Unexpired Term), #1



Roff SD I-27: William Sanchez, #5



Stonewall SD I-30: Tim Hall, #5



Vanoss SD I-9: Harold Haines, #5



Pontotoc Technology: Ernie Staggs, #2 Zone Center VT-14
