Making a difference
ADA — "Make a Difference Day" at Ada Boys and Girls Club was Saturday, Oct. 24. This day was part of a national effort to make an impact on other people's lives by doing something nice to change their life in a positive way.
The Boys and Girls Club Project for this event was putting togehter red, white and blue care packages for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The children and staff of Boys and Girls Club, Willard Grade Center fifth and sixth grade, Ada High school leadership Class, Division of Youth and Family Services adn Ada Elks Lodge worked together to achieve this project.
On Saturday, volunteers put together more than 50 care packages that will be sent to men and women overseas. Donna Cox, coordinator of hte project said these care packages will make the lives of U.S. soldiers a little easier and wills how them that they are being thought about by the people at home.
Leading up to the event, students made posters, wrote letters tot he soldiers and listened to guest speakers about the people and country of Afghanistan.
The community suppported the event as numerous individuals and businesses donated items and/or money in support of this cause. Ada Elks Loge's commitment to the project is to pay shipping cost of all care packages.
"The Boys and Girls Club of Ada staff thanks everyone for their support and many donations," said Cox. "Because of the generous help of many the day's event was a huge success."
