COJC provides employment possibilities
Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center (COJC) has been a part of the Tecumseh community since 1921. The facility has gone through many changes throughout the years, but has consistently provided employment possibilities and recreational opportunities for local residents as well as guidance, structure and support for the youth of Oklahoma.
COJC is operated by the Office of Juvenile Affairs. It serves to protect the public, intervene in the anti-social lifestyle, encourage normal adolescent maturation and prepare youth for reintegration into the community.
COJC currently is the only state-operated institution that houses female juveniles. A full range of services are provided to COJC juveniles and their families. Those services include meeting the residents’ basic needs, education, medical and dental services, psychotherapy, individual, group and family counseling, recreational therapy, religious services, social services, substance abuse treatment, community service and a specialized sex offender program. There are many recreational activities in progress to enhance social skills. There are many recreational activities in progress to enhance social skills.
COJC is located at 700 S. 9th, Tecumseh. The facility generally employs 185 people and host a myriad of volunteers. Many of the employees of COJC started their employment at the entry level and have been promoted to higher level positions. Most COJC employees will tell you that working at COJC in not just a job, it is a calling and a career in state government.
IRT growing in Ada
Interactive Response Technologies, IRT, provides support for the wireless telephone industry, by means of its 450 employees.
IRT has only been in Ada for a year, but has an established 13 years in the business of technical support. The mission of IRT is to be a people friendly business where success and development of the individual customer service agent is a primary goal. IRT provides world class customer service by being open seven days a week from 7 a.m. until midnight.
In one year IRT has grown from zero to 450 employees and within the next month plan to add an addition 100. Agents who begin working for IRT in the month of September will qualify for a Holiday Employee Appreciation Cash Bonus. IRT offers a variety of schedules and a full package of benefits and paid time off.
IRT is located at 3700 IRT Drive in Ada.
DJK provides vocational services to persons in Pontotoc County area with developmental disabilities
DJK Enterprises, Inc., 603 E. Main, has been in business 15 years. DJK provides residential and vocational services to persons with developmental disabilities.
Its 100 plus employees teach consumers independent living skills, which include teaching them how to make a bed, cook a meal, to writing checks and balancing their checkbooks. All individuals in the DJK program live in their own homes in Ada and the surrounding areas. These individuals are integrated into the community residentially and are employed in Ada. They pay rent, utilities, and buy food and clothing in Ada.
DJK provides its consumers the chance to go to the movies, dine out, attend football games, fish or any other activity they choose. DJK makes it possible for these individuals to live and work in the community by providing them assistance when needed.
DJK Enterprises, Inc. administrative office operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
