McCoy brothers, Ada Area Chamber of Commerce team up with Relay For Life

Cord and Jet McCoy are working with Ada Area Chamber of Commerce to hold a benefit dinner for Pontotoc County’s Relay For Life.
The event, called “Oh My Gravy! It’s a Pink Tie Affair!” is an effort by the cowboys and finalists of the CBS television show “The Amazing Race” to lend their “fifteen minutes of fame” to help cancer victims.
Cord McCoy said he got involved because his parents had cancer.
“It sounded like a good cause to help with. My mom and dad both had cancer so it kind of hits close to home,” he said.
Jim McLain, Cord McCoy’s co-producer, said, “It’s the right thing for the right reason.”
The event is planned for May 27 at Pontotoc County Agri-Plex. A steak dinner will be served.
There will also be a silent auction and a presentation of proceeds by Cord McCoy to the Pontotoc County Relay For Life team.
McLain said Daisy Outdoor Products would be producing commemorative Red Ryder pink BB guns for the silent auction. The BB guns will be a limited edition exclusive to the event.
A proclamation will be read at the event, declaring May 27 Ada’s official McCoy Brothers Day.
A parade is also being tentatively planned for May 29 on Ada Main Street.
Tom Runnells of Pontotoc County’s Relay For Life said the Pontotoc County event has raised the most money per capita in the High Plains District—a five-state region—for three years running. Last year, Pontotoc County’s team was number eight in the nation, he said, and had more survivors than any other relay in the state.
“Every year, we have exceeded the goal from the year before except for once,” Runnells said.
McCoy and McLain said they want to push Pontotoc County’s Relay For Life over the top.
“I think this area has plenty to be proud of,” Cord McCoy said.
Because of the event, Runnells said the Relay For Life survivor dinner would be changed to May 25 at the same time and place.
Jamie Green of the chamber said 320 tickets will be sold. Tickets can be purchased at the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce or the Tupelo Country Store.
