ECU’s Pool qualifies for NCAA Division II South Central Golf Regional
Ada — East Central University golfer Zac Pool, who was recently named to the All-Lone Star Conference First Team, has qualified for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Golf Tournament set for May 4-6 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.
Pool, a junior out of Poteau, was one of three individuals who qualified for the regional, hosted by Grand Valley State (Mich.). The Midwest Regional is also being held at The Meadows.
Pool, the Tigers’ top golfer, has placed in the top 10 of five of the nine tournaments he has competed in during the fall of 2008 and spring of 2009.
He won The Territory Classic, hosted by Cameron University, in a playoff to close out the fall portion of ECU’s schedule. He finished at 4-under for the tournament after firing a 4-under-par 68 in the opening round and an even 72 in the second.
His best round of the spring was a 2-under 70 in the third and final round of the LSC Championships earlier this week in Thackerville.
He finished in a tie for 33rd in that tournament after somewhat struggling with back-to-back 75s in the first two rounds.
Other outstanding finishes for Pool include: tie for seventh in the Central Oklahoma/Kickingbird Classic in Edmond this spring; tie for eighth in the Red River Intercollegiate, hosted by ECU, in Thackerville this spring; tie for seventh at Chickasaw Pointe in Kingston, hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State, in the fall; and a ninth-place effort at Emerald Falls in Tulsa, hosted by Northeastern State, in the fall.
