TUESDAY

DEC. 15, 2009

• TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets at 8:15 a.m. each Tuesday on the second floor of Irving Center, located at the corner of Fourth and Oak Streets in Ada. TOPS is a weight support group.

• Prime Timers’ monthly meeting will be held at JD’s Cafe.  Mr. Rudy Lupinski will present a piano medley of Christmas carols and group singing.  Visitation begins at 5:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner at 6 p.m.  Visitors are welcome.



WEDNESDAY

DEC. 16, 2009

• Chickasaw National Recreation Area at Sulphur hosts an open house from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Platt District Raner Station. The ranger station is located in the former park headquarters building, approximately one-half mile south of the four-way stop on State Highway 177. The event is open to the public.

• Divorce/Bereavement Support Group meets at 7 p.m. at The Compassion Outreach Center, 1124 Cradduck Road. The group offers support for those who have lost a loved one through divorce or death. For more information, phone Tom at 332-6506.

• A dance is held every Wednesday at the Irving Community Center, 704 N. Oak, from 7:30-10 p.m. The cost is $6 per person.



THURSDAY

DEC. 17, 2009

• Gospel and country music singers Thurman Rinehart, Leon and Deana Barnett, Gene Williams, Robert Turner and Don Brooks will perform for the residents of Jan Francis Nursing Home in Ada at 2 p.m.

• Westside Neighborhood Association will hold its annual holiday gathering at 6:30 p.m. at the Christian Church at the corner of Oak and 9th Streets.  There will be a drawing this year for five Neighborhood Watch signs for community members who attend and sign up for the drawing.  For more information contact Sandy Mayhue at 580-310-0376, or LeAnne Wilson at 580-272-0648.

• The local Alcoholics Anonymous group meets Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, 301 E. Kings Rd. For more information, phone Daniel G. at (580) 332-3503.

• Pontotoc County Alcoholics Anonymous group meets at 8 p.m. at Central Church of Christ, 820 Stadium Drive, Ada. Open meeting.



FRIDAY

DEC. 18, 2009

• Al-Anon meets Fridays at 8 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 17th Street and Broadway in Ada.

• Celebrate Recovery meets each Friday at Grace Community Church in Konawa on SH 99. The program is for anyone with hurts, habits or hang-ups. From 6-7 p.m., a meal is served for $3; group from 7 to 9 p.m. is free. For more information, phone 580-272-3320 or 925-3545.

• Alcoholics Anonymous Men’s Only Discussion Group meets at 8 a.m. at Central Church of Christ. Closed meeting. For more information, phone Craig R. at 580-399-8838.

• Ada American Legion Post 72 sponsors Bingo Saturday nights at 6 and 7:30 p.m. The Post hall is located at 3529 N. Broadway, Ada. Refreshments are available. Proceeds finance veterans and their families, scholarships and Boys and Girls State.

• Al-Anon meets Sundays at 8 p.m. at Central Church of Christ at 820 Stadium Drive in Ada.

• Pontotoc County Alcoholics Anonymous group meets at 8 p.m. at Central Church of Christ, 820 Stadium Drive, Ada. Open meeting.

• The Ada High Leadership class has collected numerous items to send overseas to those who are serving our country. DEC. 21, 2009

• Ada City Council meets the first and third Monday each month at 5:45 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall unless the day falls on a holiday. Meetings are also televised live on cable, Channel 11.

• Pontotoc County Alcoholics Anonymous group meets at 8 p.m. at Central Church of Christ, 820 Stadium Drive, Ada. Open meeting.



TUESDAY

DEC. 22, 2009

• Ada Public Library will be having Holiday Crafts for children ages 3-10 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The event is come and go and will be in the children’s section of the library.

• An old-time Christmas in Memory Lane takes place at 5 p.m. downtown Allen. A handmade life-size nativitity will be on display, carolers will sing Christmas songs, and a country kitchen concession will be serving popcorn, finger foods, hot cider, Wassell, hot coffee and hot chocolate. Santa wiill arrive in surprise transportation and will sit in the gazebo in a special made Santa chair handing out candy canes. Pictures of the children will be taken with a lighted Christmas tree as the backdrop. The event is sponsered by The Allen Historical Society and open to the public. Those wishing to dress in vintage clothing are encouraged to do so.
