• Chickasaw Nation Get Fresh! program will be holding a class at 10 a.m. and at noon demonstrating healthy cooking for the entire family at Ada Family Life/Wellness Center, 229 W. Seabrook. For more information, phone (580) 272-5506.

• Divorce/Bereavement Support Group meets at 7 p.m. at The Compassion Outreach Center, 1124 Cradduck Road. The group offers support for those who have lost a loved one through divorce or death. For more information, phone Tom at 332-6506.

• A dance is held every Wednesday at the Irving Community Center, 704 N. Oak, from 7:30-10 p.m. The cost is $6 per person.



THURSDAY

DEC. 10, 2009

• State Rep. Todd Thomsen of Ada will receive the Distinguished Service Award from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education at 6 p.m. at a ceremony in the lobby of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at East Central University. The public is invited. Chancellor Glen D. Johnson will present the award.

• Ada Multiple Sclerosis Support Group will have its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at Ada Reed Activity Center, 207 W St., Ada; the building is handicap accessible. The speaker will be Dr. James Talley Jr., an upper cervical care doctor.  All persons with MS, their care givers, family, friends or anyone interested in knowing more about MS are welcome to attend. • Pontotoc County Alcoholics Anonymous group meets at 8 p.m. at Central Church of Christ, 820 Stadium Drive, Ada. Open meeting.

• Gospel and country music singers Thurman Rinehart, Leon and Deana Barnett, Gene Williams, Robert Turner and Don Brooks will perform for residents of Ballard Nursing Home in Ada at 2:30 p.m.

• Valley View Regional Hospital will be holding a blood drive from 7 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 6 p.m., at the hospital. Each donor will receive a beanie cap.

• The Singing Rineharts will entertain the residents of Woodland Hills Nursing Home in Allen with gospel and country music at 6:30 p.m.

DEC. 11, 2009

• The December meeting for the Pontotoc County Retired Educators is at the Elks Lodge beginning with lunch at 11 a.m.  The program will be a musical presentation by Suzanne Wooley — Christmas Dreams.

• Al-Anon meets Fridays at 8 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 17th Street and Broadway in Ada.

• Celebrate Recovery meets each Friday at Grace Community Church in Konawa on SH 99. The program is for anyone with hurts, habits or hang-ups. From 6-7 p.m., a meal is served for $3; group from 7 to 9 p.m. is free. For more information, phone 580-272-3320 or 925-3545.

• East Central University’s fall commencement ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. at the Kerr Activities Center.

• Chimney Hill Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution meets for a Christmas luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at Ada Arts and Heritage Center. Music will be provided by East Central University Gospel Choir.

• Alcoholics Anonymous Men’s Only Discussion Group meets at 8 a.m. at Central Church of Christ. Closed meeting. For more information, phone Craig R. at 580-399-8838.

• Ada American Legion Post 72 sponsors Bingo Saturday nights at 6 and 7:30 p.m. The Post hall is located at 3529 N. Broadway, Ada. Refreshments are available. Proceeds finance veterans and their families, scholarships and Boys and Girls State.

• Conquering Grief Education and Recovery Seminar will be presented from 2-4 p.m. at Chickasaw Nation Community Center, Room A. The seminar is free and open to the public. • TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets at 8:15 a.m. each Tuesday on the second floor of Irving Center, located at the corner of Fourth and Oak Streets in Ada. TOPS is a weight support group.

• Chickasaw National Recreation Area at Sulphur hosts an open house from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Platt District Raner Station. The ranger station is located in the former park headquarters building, approximately one-half mile south of the four-way stop on State Highway 177. The event is open to the public.
