TUESDAY

SEPT. 29, 2009

• Latta Public Schools will be holding a community meeting at 7 p.m. in Latta School Auditorium. The purpose of the meeting is to receive input from the community concerning the district’s proposed capital improvement plan. The meeting is open to all parents, patrons and interested members of the community.

WEDNESDAY

SEPT. 30, 2009

• Oklahoma Blood Institute conducts a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Carl Albert Indian Health Facility hospital conference room, 1001 N. Country Club Road. All donors will receive a free University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University blood donor T-shirt. • Divorce/Bereavement Support Group meets at 7 p.m. at The Compassion Outreach Center, 1124 Cradduck Road. The group offers support for those who have lost a loved one through divorce or death. For more information, phone Tom at 332-6506.

• A dance is held every Wednesday at the Irving Community Center, 704 N. Oak, from 7:30-10 p.m. The cost is $6 per person.

OCT. 1, 2009

• The local Alcoholics Anonymous group meets Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, 301 E. Kings Rd. For more information, phone Daniel G. at (580) 332-3503.

• Pontotoc National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) meets at 7 p.m. in Valley View Regional Hosptial conference room next to the cafeteria. Pontotoc NAMI is a support group and anyone with an interest in mental health issues may attend. Shaun Hunley will discuss her recently published book about her personal experience with bipolar disorder. For more information, phone Gail Wood and 580-320-1640.

* South Central Oklahoma Lupus Support Group meets at 7 p.m. at Main Street Church of Christ, 408 E. Main Street in Davis. John Key from Griffin Funeral Home of Ardmore will speak on a variety of topics related to pre-arranging funerals, trust and pricing. The coupr will also have a booth at Murray County Health Fair Oct. 17 at the Expo Center.

• Pontotoc County Alcoholics Anonymous group meets at 8 p.m. at Central Church of Christ, 820 Stadium Drive, Ada. Open meeting.



FRIDAY

OCT. 2, 2009

• Byng School District will have a meeting for Titles I, II, IV (safe, healthy and fit program), and VI at 8 a.m in the superintendent’s office. All parents, community members and interested persons are welcome to attend.  For more information, phone Dr. Layne at 310-6726.

• Al-Anon meets Fridays at 8 p.m. at St Luke’s Episcopal Church at 17th Street and Broadway in Ada.

• Stratford Chamber of Commerce hosts a city-wide garage sale.

• Baptist Village of Ada will host an Art Show Oct. 3-15 featuring Magic Brush Art Guild. For information contact Bob Abbott at 310-0508.  Baptist Village is located at 3501 Oakridge Drive, across the street from Kerr Research Center.

• Petsense, 1500 Hoppe Blvd., will partner with local animal shelters and rescue organizations to find homes for homeless pets during ‘Nome Now’ Adopt-A-Thon 2009.

• Alcoholics Anonymous Men’s Only Discussion Group meets at 8 a.m. at Central Church of Christ. Closed meeting. For more information, phone Craig R. at 580-399-8838.

• Stratford Chamber of Commerce hosts a city-wide garage sale.

• Latta Partners in Excellence Foundation hosts its 18th annual golf tournament at Lakewood Golf Course in Ada. The event begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Entry fee is $35 for adults and $15 for students. Proceeds from the tournament are used to provide scholarships for Latta students. • Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders support group meets at 1:30 p.m. in the Social Services Center auditorium, 1630 E. Beverly. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, phone Sidney Pepper at 332-0832.

• Ada American Legion Post 72 sponsors Bingo Saturday nights at 6 and 7:30 p.m. The Post hall is located at 3529 N. Broadway, Ada. Refreshments are available. Proceeds finance veterans and their families, scholarships and Boys and Girls State.

• Title VII and JOM Parent Committee of Ada Schools will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Ada Cougar Activity Center. Elections will be held at this meeting. Parents of Native American students attending Ada Schools are invited to attend.

• Dr. Paul R. Lehman will conduct a book signing from 3:30-5 p.m. at Ada Public Library. Copies of his book “America’s Race Problem: A Practical Guide to Understanding Race in America” will be available for sale.

• Ada City Council meets the first and third Monday each month at 5:45 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall unless the day falls on a holiday. Meetings are also televised live on cable channel 11.
